Genoma España was created in 2002 to improve the worldwide competitiveness of Spanish research on applied genomics. Just like in other countries, Spain needed an organization to promote biotechnology as well as link research groups, biotech companies, capital investors and society together.

After several years of work, Genoma España became the “leading supporter and promoter of biotechnology” in Spain.
In June 2009, however, Genoma España receives a new mandate: to drive the creation of value from Spanish intellectual assets and support innovation in strategic areas of the national R&D plan, particularly focusing on biotechnology.
